Rock Chart (Week 8, 2021)

Artists from around the globe feature in our first ever Rock chart, with Indie Rock and Metal having particularly strong showings this week. Finnish metal band Blind Channel top the list following the release of their single 'Dark Side' which has racked up 2 million streams on Spotify.

Our first ever Rock Chart is a truly global affair, topped by Finnish metalheads Blind Channel, who you might recognise from Eurovision. Their latest track ‘Dark Side’, released in late January, has already reached over 2 million streams on Spotify, featuring in Spotify’s New Noise rock playlist and HIIT workout playlist.

Other European entries in this week’s chart include; NEEV from Portugal, who grew his Spotify following by 12.4% over the past week; British Indie Rockers False Heads, who also featured in our Indie chart thanks to playlist support from Spotify; Blues/Alternative rock artist Tooth & Nail who were also added to a large Spotify rock playlist; and Swedish Psych-rock act Callus, who have accelerated their Spotify follower growth since they released their track ‘See You Soon’ at the tail end of 2020.

Representing Japan, Who-ya Extended have more than doubled their Spotify following since the start of the year, with their tracks featuring in Spotify’s Anime playlist with 289k followers. The remaining four acts all come from the US, including metalcore vocalist Landon Tewers, whose track ‘Destroy’ features in the 178k follower-strong Heavy Gaming playlist, as well as Indie Rock from Arthur Moon, Petey, and Charlie Hickey, the latter featuring in the All New Indie Spotify playlist with over 1 million followers.
