African artists make a huge impact on the first Instrumental Pop Chart, taking up 6 of the 10 spots. Future pop star ELIO continues her hot streak thanks to a high-profile collaboration, plus stateside country pop has an impressive showing.
Nigerian singer Omah Lay tops the inaugural Instrumental Pop Chart, after growing his socials and Spotify following significantly throughout the start of 2021. Over the past week, Lay has seen a 27% increase in Spotify followers, accompanied by 19k new Twitter followers and 8k new YouTube subscribers.
Elsewhere on the chart, African artists of Nigerian and Ghanain descent make up 60% of the top 10, with the likes of Amaarae and Gabzy receiving significant editorial support from Spotify, featuring in 24 playlists between them. Amaarae’s track ‘TRUST FUND BABY’ finds itself in Spotify’s genre-bending POLLEN playlist alongside the likes of Kali Uchis and Still Woozy, while Gazby’s ‘What You Need’ features in the laid-back Spotify & Chill playlist.
#2 artist ELIO has been on a 28-day HOT streak on our platform, growing her platforms across the board since she released her EP ‘Can You Hear Me Now’ earlier in the year. Last week, she released a remix for the track ‘Charger’ featuring none other than hyper-pop star Charli XCX. Since the track dropped, ELIO’s Spotify following has grown by 20% and her Instagram and Twitter by 10%.
Omar Lay and ELIO are joined on the chart by US country pop stars Lainey Wilson and Tiera, as well as Swedish pop star Thomas Stenstrom.
