We first profiled BLÜ EYES as a Hot Artist in March, when she saw a spike in her weekly Spotify followers growth after receiving playlisting support from the streaming service and going viral on TikTok. Back then, BLÜ EYES had just over half a million total playlist followers, most of which came from the Chill Pop playlist (where she remains to this day). Now, BLÜ EYES’ tracks feature in playlists with over 5.4 million followers, an 822% increase in under 5 months.
When BLÜ EYES first came onto our radar, she had just released the guitar-driven, melancholic single ‘somebody’, which she followed up with two equally tender tracks ‘supposed to’ and ‘break up with a friend’. All three found their way into Spotify playlists such as Indie Pop (1.5m followers), Dinner With Friends (1.3m followers) and Fresh & Chill (1m followers), where she features alongside artists such as Taylor Swift and Lorde with whom she shares a similar sound. This playlist support, along with her continued success on TikTok, has led to 140% Spotify follower growth since ‘somebody’ was released.
TikTok remains BLÜ EYES’ largest platform in terms of followers, with over 222k and 2.5M likes. Her Instagram following has also grown at an accelerated rate off the back of her streaming and TikTok success, with 154% growth over the past 6 months, to over 10k. Capitalising on this momentum by continuing to release a steady stream of singles throughout the year, BLÜ EYES’ latest tracks ‘actually happy’ and ‘if i were a friend’ incorporate elements of pop and electronic music and find themselves in popular Spotify playlists such as Chill Pop (508k followers) and Study Break (311k followers).
With BLÜ EYES’ songs ‘supposed to’ and ‘stuck in my head’ both crossing 2 million Spotify streams, and her other tracks in the hundreds of thousands of streams, she has marked herself one to watch for the second half of 2021. Clearly understanding what it takes to grow as an artist in the streaming era, BLÜ EYES’ consistency and incremental musical development is beginning to pay off, with strong engagement from her fans on Instagram and TikTok and a quarter of a million streams on ‘if i were a friend’ in less than a month.
