Hip Hop Chart (Week 8, 2021)

Viral trap star behind 'Buss It', Erica Banks tops our debut Hip Hop chart, which features predominantly American artists this week. Outside of the states, Italy and Ghana produced acts that also feature in this top 10.

Her viral smash hit Buss It made waves on TikTok earlier this year, sending rapper Erica Banks stratospheric and landing her at #1 on our first ever hip hop chart. Since the start of the year, she’s more than doubled her following on Instagram and increased her YouTube subscribers by 360%.

Banks is the only female artist on our list, with the rest of the line-up male artists from the USA, Italy and Ghana. Italian artist MACE is at #2 on our chart, doubling his Spotify following since he released his album ‘OBE’ at the start of February and featuring in playlists totalling over one million followers.

Rapper ssgkobe has over 260k views on the music video for his track ‘Sandlot’ and features in the popular Spotify gaming playlist Hip Hop Controller, as well as Most Necessary, where the streaming giant have declared him one of the voices of the next generation. Amaru Cloud is also making waves in the Vapor Trap scene despite little support from streaming platforms, instead he features on a variety of extremely popular user-generated playlists.

Elsewhere on the list, Pappy Kojo reps Ghana on the chart, growing his already 1M follower strong Twitter and Instagram audiences and new hot artist Elijah the Kid enters the chart at #9.
