Hip Hop Chart (Week 27, 2021)

While The Instrumental Hip Hop Chart is typically dominated by US artists, this week we see rising rappers, MCs and vocalists from Jamaica, Chile, South Korea and more, with German hip hop troop 01099 rising from #2 on our last chart to pole position.

Continuing to post massive growth on Spotify and YouTube - 24% and 23% respective follower growth since our last chart - 01099 have two tracks in Spotify’s German Top 50. They’re also a mainstay of German editorial playlists, with tracks in Modus Mio (1.6m followers), Sommerhits (1.3m followers), and Swag! (617k) among others. On YouTube, the group have raked in over 2 million views over the past 30 days, with the music video for ‘DURSTLOCHER’ crossing 1.6m views.

Rot Ken returns to the Hip Hop Chart at #2 after sustaining a two week Hot Streak off the back of his latest release Never Bend, while genre blending artist Teezo Touchdown is riding high after featuring on Tyler, the Creator’s latest album ‘Call Me If You Get Lost’. Teezo Touchdown blends trap and hip hop with pop punk and emo to create an entirely unique sound, with 18% Spotify follower growth since his Tyler feature dropped.

Jamaican born, US based dancehall artist Klassik Fresco has seen 23.5% Spotify follower growth since he dropped new track ‘Back Seat (Curry Stew Riddim)’ with a 2 point increase in his Instrumental Ix Score - our measure of social and streaming performance. Chilean reggaeton artist Marcianeke features in Spotify playlists with over 3 million total followers, including editorial lists and the Chile Top 50.

From the UK, rapper Sainte has seen 19% Spotify follower growth over the past 14 days with new fans flocking in for his laid-back R&B soaked tracks. Teenage rappers Babysantana and Slump6s made waves with their collab track ‘Antisocial’ back in April, with 2 million views on YouTube and 5 million Spotify streams. The brand new remix, simply titled ‘Antisocial 2’, features hip hop chart alum Ssgkobe and currently sits at #17 on the Spotify viral chart.

Finally, South Korean rapper Ash-B saw a surprise bump in Spotify followers despite not releasing music since 2020, while the Philippines’ 8 Ballin’ have seen a 5 point increase in their Spotify popularity score over the past week, with their track ‘Know Me’ racking up 800k streams and a colossal 8.7M views on Youtube.
