Meet the Team: Amrit Kaur

I’m from East London/Essex… it’s on the border of both, but I spent a lot of my time in East London before it became trendy! I graduated with a degree in English Literature and Film Studies, and straight from university got a job in the music industry as I’m really passionate about music in general. I also had a few retail jobs whilst studying, a highlight being working on the launch of the first ever Victoria’s Secret store in London during the 2012 Olympics.

What does your role entail?

The main part of my role is to speak and meet with A&R teams from around the globe, and learn how we can help them scout for musical talent in the streaming age. I present them our A&R scouting platform and see if we’re a good match.

What’s the best part of your job?

I love speaking to people from the music industry from all over the world - especially when I’m a fan of their label and roster. I also enjoy discovering artists from our A&R scouting platform that I can then add to my own playlists. If the artist is relatively new, I often find a small gig of theirs in London to head to.

As well as that, I like working in a young, dynamic start-up company that’s progressive in its approach to the evolving music industry.

What did you want to be when you were little?

Sabrina the Teenage Witch - I still do.

In your spare time, what do you get up to?

I’m usually practising the guitar, reading or (trying to) meditate.

If you could be in the movie of your choice, what movie would you choose and what character would you play?

Probably Sarah Connor in Terminator 2: Judgement Day. She’s such a badass mum and the scene where she breaks out of the hospital is so epic.

What’s your earliest memory?

My 5th birthday party. I had a cute velvet green dress on lol.

If you had to delete all but 3 apps from your phone, which ones would you keep?

  1. Spotify - obviously

  2. Instagram - the black hole of procrastination

  3. Google Maps - I have an awful sense of direction
