I grew up in Essex and graduated from the University of Nottingham in 2016, specialising in Contemporary Chinese Studies and International Relations. My role at Instrumental was the first job I took after university, but before that I dabbled in all sorts, from teaching English as a second language and interning at an education consultancy in China, to stuffing teddy bears at a popular children’s toy store.
I spend my days chatting to A&R teams across the globe, focusing on learning about the kinds of problems that labels, publishers and sync companies face when it comes to talent discovery in the digital age.
If it feels like our platform can help them with these pain points, I introduce them to our A&R scouting platform and provide them with a comprehensive, tailored demo of the features and metrics that will ultimately help them improve over their A&R process. It’s as simple as that!
Unlike most of the people who work on the Instrumental music scouting team, I started out with less experience in the music world - unless you count my questionable taste in music. So, learning about the ins and outs of what it takes to break an artist in 2018 has been very eye opening.<
I also really enjoy the fact that I get to meet incredibly interesting people with varied careers that have a genuine passion for music every single day.
I’m really interested in politics and global equality, and having studied international relations I spend a lot of my spare time keeping up to date with newspapers and blogs.
Probably the most boring answer ever, but it would have to be Nandos.
