Meet the Team: Sam Nokes

samnokessocials

Born and bred in the fresh air of Wiltshire in the West Country, I was educated in Geography (amongst other things) at the University Of Nottingham. Having spent time as a labourer and as an A&R Consultant for Decca Records - these were very contrasting experiences, but both taught me a lot. I’m now part of the team at Instrumental.

What does your role entail?

As a Customer Success Account Manager I have the pleasure of working closely with our clients to ensure they get maximum use out of our fantastic A&R scouting platform and the wide-ranging services our team offer.

What’s the best part of your job?

Being part of the SAS. Not the Special Air Service, but Sam and Sam, the Customer Success dynamic duo - you can find out more about Sam here.

What did you want to be when you were little?

It was always my dream to be a professional sportsman in whichever discipline I found myself to be good enough in. While some have their hopes tarnished by injury, mine was by a distinct lack of talent. But God loves a trier.

Though I also remember that I once wanted to have a different job for each day of the week. So on Monday I wanted to be a fireman, Tuesday a farmer, Wednesday a builder, etc - the latter of which I’ve actually done.

In your spare time, what do you get up to?

I follow a multitude of sports. Liverpool’s recent Champions League run has been a particular highlight (off-setting often less positive campaigns of Swindon Town, Bath Rugby and “Athletic Bilblau” - my 5-a-side team). This complements spending time with mates trying to get them to laugh at my awful jokes, sampling the occasional beer and getting along to church on a Sunday.

If you could score a goal, in any game ever, where would it be?

Anfield, in front of The Kop, last game of the season, final minute, 25-yards out, smashed into the top corner - keeper didn’t have a chance, to win the League against Manchester United in a result that simultaneously relegates them. The crowd go wild and it’s the greatest moment since Istanbul ‘05 (...possibly Kiev ‘18). Just thinking about it makes the hairs on the back of my neck stand up.

What’s your most earliest memory?

On a family holiday in the Summer of ‘97. I believe it was in The Dordogne in France and where we were staying had a log shaped a bit like a motorcycle that I spent a lot of time on letting my imagination run wild. That, and car journeys to nursery with my mum.

Name one emerging artist you are most excited about right now.

Dermot Kennedy, unreal talent. But there’s a lot of great stuff coming through our A&R scouting platform that will be the soundtrack for my summer.
