Meet the Team: John Kilpatrick


John Kilpatrick is our Head of Product. He graduated from the University of Exeter in 2015 with a 2:1 in Management with Marketing. During his degree time he also spent a year studying abroad at Iowa State University.

His previous experience includes working as an analyst for leading research and data company Kantar (WPP).

In his spare time, he is a music producer signed to Ultra Music Europe (Publishing). When he’s not working on developing our products, or producing synth-heavy beats, you’re most likely to find John keeping fit or out and about south of the river.

What does your role entail?

I act as the bridge between music industry A&Rs/promoters and data scientists/software developers, to create a platform for music scouts to find emerging artists on Spotify.

What’s the best part of your job?

The freedom to work with very clever people on a highly disruptive product, and seeing the resulting impact that it is having. Aside from that, I’d have to say the chicken and rice from the cafe round the corner from the office (£4, absolute steal!).

When you were younger, what did you want to be?

A Helicopter pilot.

In your spare time, what do you get up to?

When not at the office I’m usually producing, it takes up most of my time!

If you could have a superpower, what would it be?

I’d have the ability to iron shirts with my bare hands.
